Art - Free Camping Clip Art

I found these cute camping clip art sites. I must admit I will probably never use them since I don't go camping. I don't go because mosquitoes will cross state lines to get to me and I can't handle doing without showers. I hope someone will love these and put them to good use. There are lots of nice ones at each site.

Writing - Interesting Site

This site - Writing Fix - is a site for teachers with lesson plans for classrooms. I looked at it and it can be slightly tweeked to apply to any writer. Just visit and look around. The address below takes you to a prompt generator. Below are three of the random prompts I saw.

"Too white?  Too black?  Too gray?  Write about a place you once visited that was too much of one of those colors."

"Who do you suppose starts a 'legend'?  Think back to something or someone from your youth that might have been worthy of 'legendary' status...at least from your child-like point of view.  Write about it, using a 'legendary' voice."

"What might come from the mouths of babes? Write a humorous piece of fiction where a baby's first word is a little surprising."

Fun Fact of the Day - Kleenex

This information came from this site. To learn more - please visit.
Kleenex is a brand name of Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.  It is an invented word - used since June 12, 1924. Kleenex products are manufactured in 30 countries and sold in more than 170 countries. It is made of a material originally called “Cellucotton”  that was designed during WWI. It was used in gas mask filters as a replacement for cotton - which was in short supply.  It was first marketed as an easy way to remove cold cream. Customers began writing letters to the company suggesting it’s use for colds and hay fever. It’s marketing changed to include the slogan “Don’t Carry a Cold in Your Pocket” and they began marketing it as a disposable handkerchief.
The antique ad  (from Life Magazine – 1943) was from this site -

Fun Fact of the Day - Ishtar Gate

I saw this and found it to be a very interesting tidbit of information to know. I hope you do, too.

The Ishtar Gate was a gate to the inner city of ancient Babylon. It was constructed in about 575 BC, by order of King Nebuchadnezzar II. It was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World - until the 6th Century AD - when it was replaced by the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Parts of the actual gate are reconstructed in various museums around the world. (see picture at left)

This information was gotten from this address – if you would like to learn more and see even more pictures - please check out this site.

Old Movie Review - Arsenic and Old Lace

I have been down with a nasty cold. After a short spell of sitting around feeling sorry for myself (as everyone is prone to do when feeling under the weather), I decided to get out some DVD movies I ordered. I've known and liked this movie for a long time but only just bought it for myself a little while ago.
My thoughts - I love it. It's about family secrets. He's a writer and writes a great deal about being anti-marriage. She's a preachers daughter, who lives next door to his two maiden aunts. They get married one afternoon. She goes home to pack for the honeymoon and he runs next door to tell his aunts the news. He finds out ALL kinds of  family secrets during a very long and stressful day. The movie is funny, slightly spooky, and very cute. No matter how bad you think your family is, you will probably feel much better about them after seeing this movie. <smile>

It has a big collection of spooky and silly looking fonts. I hope you check them out and have fun.

You can download for free in zip format. They have such fitting names as - Agatha, Barbed Wire, Blood of Dracula, Cauldron, Creature.... well worth the visit. They show you the names in the font, so you can tell if you want that type.

Writing Exercise - 3

I'm giving you a new idea to work with.

Google the word "horoscope" and pick any page they list.

Take any horoscope group and pick your favorite. This doesn't have to be your own horoscope.  Take the one you like and write a story using the information given. Any page will give you, at least, 12 choices. Pick any of them that look promising. If you are feeling really creative, write all 12.

Have fun writing.

Fun Fact of the Day - Dogs

I have a big magazine collection - totes full of all kinds just waiting for me to read or reread. Today I had a chance to look at some older ones. I learned several new things but the one I'm going to share is about dogs. I didn't know this before I read it.

You can't feed dogs -
Chocolate - effects the central nervous and cardiovascular systems.
Grapes or Raisins - effects their kidneys.
Onions or Garlic -  can cause anemia.

I found this in the magazine - Quick and Simple - Nov. 21, 2006.
